2.Client & Core Challenges
The client operated a large urban water park serving thousands of visitors daily during the summer season. While the park had an extensive collection of thrill slides and a wave pool for older children and adults, the dedicated children's area was outdated and undersized, leading to overcrowding and complaints from families with young kids.
First, the park needed a children's play structure that could handle very high simultaneous usage. On peak days, hundreds of young children and their parents crowded into the kids' zone, and the old equipment could not accommodate the volume. The new structure needed multiple slide exits, distributed play features and a layout that naturally spreads visitors across the play area to prevent dangerous bottlenecks.
Second, the park wanted a theme that would feel cohesive with the overall water park environment and appeal to the broadest possible audience. A generic or overly narrow theme would not serve the diverse visitor base. The design needed to be visually rich, immediately recognizable as an ocean themed play area, and engaging enough that children would want to return to it multiple times during a single visit.
Third, the equipment would operate in a demanding commercial water park environment with constant moisture, chlorine, heavy use and intense sun. The park management needed materials that would resist corrosion, fading and wear season after season, while also being easy for their maintenance team to clean and inspect. The structure also had to integrate with the park's existing pool filtration and water circulation system.
3.Our Custom Solution
We designed a large-scale sea creature themed water play structure, configured specifically for the high-volume children's zone of a major water park. The solution addressed each of the client's challenges.
For high-capacity use, we created a multi-wing layout with three separate slide groups and numerous ground-level water features. The central double lane wave slide, the side enclosed tube slide and the opposite double lane body slide each operate independently with their own access points, which distributes riders across the structure and prevents any single area from becoming overcrowded. The extensive water spray features at ground level draw younger children away from the slide towers, further spreading usage and keeping the entire zone active and flowing. Even at peak capacity, the layout keeps wait times short and movement safe.
For broad audience appeal, we developed a rich sea creature theme populated with a wide variety of marine animals rather than relying on a single character. Two seahorses crown the top platform and pour water into a central tipping bucket. A smiling starfish, a green sea turtle and a colorful fish decorate the upper level. An octopus with curling tentacles and a leaping dolphin spray water from side posts. Mushroom shaped water umbrellas and a large snail sprayer at pool level add more friendly sea characters. This diverse cast creates an immersive underwater atmosphere that sparks imaginative play and gives children many different visual points of interest to discover.
For commercial durability, we specified hot-dip galvanized steel for the entire structural frame. Galvanized steel provides excellent corrosion resistance in constant moisture and chlorine environments at a cost-effective price point, making it the standard choice for large water park installations. All slides are manufactured from fiberglass with a smooth gel coat finish, which delivers consistent sliding performance, resists scratching and UV fading, and is easy to clean and sanitize. The entire structure was designed to connect directly to the park's existing water circulation system, with all spray features recirculating filtered pool water.
4.Key Play Structure Features
Multi-Slide Fiberglass System
The play structure includes three distinct fiberglass slide groups that together provide high-capacity sliding for a wide age range. The green double lane wave slide at the front of the structure allows two children to slide side by side over a gently undulating path, making it accessible and fun for younger riders. The large blue enclosed tube slide on the right wing offers a more thrilling, fully enclosed sliding experience that curves from the upper platform down into the pool, popular with older children. The red double lane body slide on the left wing provides a fast, open sliding option with two parallel lanes. All slides are constructed from fiberglass with a smooth gel-coated interior, which ensures consistent speed and comfort when wet and resists the scratching and wear that come with heavy daily use. Each slide has a separate, spacious landing zone in the shallow pool, preventing crowding at the exits.
Marine Animal Water Spray Features
The water park is rich with interactive sea creature themed spray features that extend play far beyond sliding. At the top of the structure, two orange seahorses pour streams of water into a large tipping bucket that periodically dumps a refreshing splash over the play area. A yellow starfish, green turtle and red fish decorate the upper platform as both visual elements and water features. On the sides, a blue octopus with curling tentacles and a blue dolphin spray arcs of water into the pool. At ground level, red and yellow mushroom water umbrellas create cascading water curtains that children can run through, and a large orange snail sprayer adds a whimsical pool-level feature. These varied spray patterns create a dynamic, ever-changing water environment that keeps children engaged for hours, and they provide gentle, low-intensity play options for toddlers who are not yet ready for the slides.
Galvanized Steel Frame for Commercial Durability
The entire play structure is supported by a hot-dip galvanized steel frame, which is the industry standard for commercial water park equipment. The galvanizing process creates a zinc coating that protects the steel from rust and corrosion even with constant exposure to chlorinated water, humid air and intense sunlight. The frame requires only basic periodic inspection and washing to maintain its protective properties, which fits easily into the park's regular maintenance routine. All connection points use stainless steel hardware to prevent rust at joints, and the frame is engineered with extra reinforcement at high-stress areas such as slide supports and platform connections to handle the constant load of hundreds of daily users.
Safety Design for High-Volume Water Parks
Safety is engineered into every detail with the specific demands of a high-traffic water park in mind. All elevated platforms are fitted with tall guardrails with closely spaced bars, and every opening is sized to strict international anti-entrapment standards. All walking surfaces and stair treads have textured non-slip finishes that remain safe even when continuously wet. All fiberglass slide edges are fully rounded and polished with no sharp seams. The shallow pool depth is carefully controlled throughout the play area, and the structure is positioned so that lifeguards have clear sight lines to all play zones. The multiple entry and exit points mean that children are never funneled through a single narrow passage, which reduces collision risks in crowded conditions.
5.Project Results & Client Testimonial
Since the new children's play structure opened, it has dramatically improved the family experience at the water park. The old overcrowding complaints have disappeared, and the park reports that families with young children now stay significantly longer, with many spending the entire day in the kids' zone rather than leaving early. The sea creature theme has been a hit with children, who enjoy identifying the different animals and playing under the various spray features.
The park's maintenance team has found the equipment straightforward to care for. The galvanized steel frame shows no signs of corrosion, and the fiberglass slides clean quickly and maintain their smooth, fast surface. The water features operate reliably with the park's existing circulation system, with no mechanical issues through the peak season.
"The new children's play structure has solved our biggest family visitor problem," said the Water Park Operations Director. "Before, the kids' area was always overcrowded and parents were frustrated. Now this sea creature structure handles our peak volumes easily, and the children absolutely love all the different animals and water features. The fiberglass slides are fast and smooth, and the galvanized steel frame gives us confidence that it will last for many seasons. It has been a major upgrade to our park and a big reason families choose us over competing water parks."
